The beauty of the Emerald Isle is portrayed beautifully in this tragically romantic and hauntingly beautiful book. I can’t wait to see the magical splendor of Ireland for myself one day!

The small village of Aghia Anna on a picturesque Greek island made me dream of spending days by the beautiful sea, basking in glorious sunshine and eating local fresh cuisine.
8. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
The haunting beauty of Savannah, Georgia, is captured so exquisitely and in such a charming way that I fell for this city very early on in this magnificent southern gothic-toned book.
9. Julie & Julia by Julie Powell
In addition to this book making me hungry (or completely put off food altogether, depending on the recipe), this book really boosted my urge to want to visit France. Julia Child’s descriptions of this beautiful country during her time there spoke to me powerfully. Paris is a must for me!

Santorini, Greece; with its sun-bleached hillside homes set against turquoise blue water has never spoken to me as powerfully until reading this magically laced book about the power of friendship.
12. The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
Striking New Zealand landscape, the rugged Australian outback and the opulence of the Vatican set the stage for one of the most beloved romances of all time. The author’s use of imageries to describe the scenery in the book was unforgettable and I hope to visit these remarkable places one day.
13. Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes
It’s not like I needed more of a reason to want to visit Tuscany, Italy, but the depictions of the golden sunsets in this book made my desire to visit this breathtakingly beautiful Italian region even stronger.
14. Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
A sun-drenched Italian coastline, Hollywood, California, and the green rolling hills of Edinburgh, Scotland, puts these destinations at the top of my must-see-after-reading list.

If any book had me absolutely ACHING to get on an airplane and leave all my cares behind, it was this. From Italy, to India, to Bali, Indonesia, the journey this book took me on is one I hope to recreate one day.
